KVLS Holds Kowtown Klassic

Kissimmee, FL - The Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show held its 12th Annual Kowtown Klassic, October 3rd and 4th. This beef cattle show is open to all youth ages 8 to 21 and also includes a pee-wee class, allowing exhibitors 7 years and under a chance to get a taste for what it is like to be in the show ring. The event is sponsored by the KVLS Beef Heifer Committee and all proceeds funnel back into the program and the annual Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show, held each year in February. This year’s event hosted more than 100 exhibitors and over 150 head of cattle.

Visitors traveled from across Florida and had the opportunity to work with Judge Andrew Kmiek of Houston, Texas. The chance to work with judges of varying backgrounds, from different areas of the country, gives the exhibitors additional experience and a fresh prospective, allowing them to grow and develop a wealth of skills.

Organizers would like to thank all of the volunteers who came together to make the event successful. The two-day show went smoothly and the relaxed atmosphere allowed everyone to enjoy their weekend, even while working hard. KVLS members extended a special thank you to the Future Farmers of America group from Harmony High school. These young volunteers helped maintain a clean venue throughout the event and it was a great way to coordinate this agriculture event with our state’s future industry leaders.

General Manager Miranda Muir brings a lifetime of experience to the Fair

Kissimmee, FL - By the time the 70th Annual Osceola County Fair rolls into town on February 14, Miranda Muir will have eight months under her belt as the General Manager of the Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show and Osceola County Fair. Since her arrival in June, she has been very busy and is ready to finally present the Anniversary Fair which has been in the making for almost one year.

Miranda Muir

Miranda and her husband Steve moved to Kissimmee from Tillamook, Oregon where she served as the General Manager of the Tillamook County Fair. She grew up just across the street from the Sangamon County Fair in the small town of New Berlin, Illinois. As a third generation “Fair kid”, she learned the Fair business from the ground up by serving in many capacities, some glamour, some not. From picking up garbage to picking up famous musicians at the airport, to directing their County Queen Pageant, Miranda learned to pitch in when needed.

That is a quality she was happy to find in the volunteers who work together to present the annual livestock show and Fair in Osceola. Since her arrival, Miranda has been a presence around town, often speaking to civic groups and at Chamber of Commerce functions. Understanding the benefits of technology, she implemented on line registration for the 1,075 exhibitors who entered 5,478 entries into this year’s Fair. Returning Fairgoers may also notice her decorating touches which have been added to the exhibition building with bright colorful 70’s theme décor to go along with the 70th Anniversary theme.

When asked what she most hopes for with this year’s Fair, Miranda replies "I’m looking forward to March, not because I want the fair to be over, but because it will be really nice to have one Fair under my belt. As a team, we are putting in lots of extra effort. I guess overall, I just hope that even though we are taking baby steps, everyone sees and appreciates all that we are doing to move the Osceola County Fair to the next level."

The Osceola County Fair takes place February 14 – 23 at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee. For information www.OsceolaCountyFair.com.

KVLS President Dale Davis reigns over the 70’s Annual Osceola County Fair

Kissimmee, FL - The Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show and Osceola County Fair is a non-profit volunteer based organization that hosts the annual Fair held in February. The organization consists of approximately 200 members who serve on 44 different committees. Dale Davis is the first KVLS member in the organization’s 70 year history to serve three terms as President. He precedes a long list of distinguished past presidents who founded and grew the organization.

Dale, age 54 and his wife Carolyn are both Lifetime members, an honor the KVLS organization bestows upon members with twenty years of service. They have two daughters, Brooke and Jessica who grew up participating in the many youth activities available through 4-H and the County Fair. As President, Dale presides over meetings, oversees the management of the daily operations and coordinates the efforts of all the committees who collectively work together to ensure the success of the annual Fair. When asked about his third term as President, Dale comments “KVLS is a family, our members support each other through good times and bad, it’s an honor to have been selected again as President”. He mentions that the best part of his job is “Watching families come together at the Fair, connecting with each other and reunited with old friends.”
